Monoethylene Glycol

Introduction

Monoethylene glycol (MEG) is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid with a sweet taste. It is miscible with water and acetone in all proportions and has strong hygroscopicity. It can be oxidized to acids when exposed to strong oxidizing agents.

Characteristics

Molar Weight 62.07 g/mol
Melting Point -12.9 °C
Boiling Point 197.6 °C
Density 1.113 g/cm3 at 25 °C
Forms Liquid, Viscous

Product Grades

Fiber Grade

Purity ≥ 99.9%, colorless and odorless, with strict limits on DEG, TEG, and aldehyde impurities. Used in PET fiber and bottle chip production.

Antifreeze Grade

Purity 99.8%–99.9%, with emphasis on freezing point and corrosion resistance. Used in automotive coolants and industrial secondary refrigerants.

Industrial Grade

Purity 99.5%–99.8%, may appear pale yellow or have a slight odor. Used in unsaturated polyester resins, plasticizers, solvents, and other non-polyester applications.
