By Montmorillonite Content (Purity Grade)
● Low-grade: < 50% – high impurity, suitable for filler use or requires modification.
● Mid-grade: 50% – 70%–meets basic industrial needs, e.g. general foundry, soil conditioning.
● High-grade: ≥ 70% – superior performance for drilling fluids, premium foundry, food & pharmaceutical applications. High-quality sodium-based grades can exceed 85%.
By Application
● Foundry (mechanical casting) – key metrics: wet compressive strength, hot-wet tensile strength.
● Iron ore pelletising–key metrics: specific surface area, water absorption, swelling capacity.
● Drilling mud – key metrics: yield, apparent viscosity, filtration loss.
