Phenolic Resin

Introduction

Phenolic resin is a synthetic plastic, appearing as a colorless or yellowish-brown transparent solid. It is also commonly known as Bakelite due to its extensive use in electrical equipment. It exhibits excellent heat resistance, flame retardancy, water resistance, and electrical insulation properties. It has good acid resistance but poor alkali resistance. Its mechanical and electrical properties are favorable, and it is easy to machine. It is classified into two types: thermosetting plastics and thermoplastics. It is used in laminated plastics, molding compounds, glass fiber-reinforced plastics, as well as in the adhesive industry for plywood and coatings.

Characteristics

Molar Weight 124.137g/mol
