Introduction

Boric acid, an inorganic compound, takes the form of a white crystalline powder-smooth in texture, void of scent. Sparingly does it dissolve in cold water, yet readily in hot water, glycerol, and ethanol. A weak monobasic acid it is; its solubility rises notably with heat, and it is given to volatilisation in the company of steam.

Industrial Grade

Widely employed in glass, ceramics, metallurgy, and other major industries. Classified into three quality grades, with core specifications as follows:
● Premium Grade: H₃BO₃ ≥ 99.6%, water insolubles ≤ 0.01%, sulfates ≤ 0.10%, iron ≤ 0.001%.
● First Grade: H₃BO₃ ≥ 99.4%, water insolubles ≤ 0.02%, sulfates ≤ 0.20%, iron ≤ 0.002%.
● Qualified Grade: H₃BO₃ ≥ 99.0%, water insolubles ≤ 0.05%, sulfates ≤ 0.30%, iron ≤ 0.003%.

Reagent Grade

Intended for laboratory analysis and precise formulation, with purity requirements exceeding those of ordinary industrial products:
● Analytical Reagent (AR): H₃BO₃ ≥ 99.5%, water insolubles ≤ 0.005%, heavy metals (as Pb) ≤ 0.001%.
● Chemical Pure (CP): H₃BO₃ ≥ 99.0%, water insolubles ≤ 0.02%, heavy metals (as Pb) ≤ 0.003%.

High-End Specialty Grade (Electronics / Advanced Ceramics)

● Electronics/Semiconductor Grade: Purity 4N (99.99%) or 5N (99.999%). Impurities (Na, Fe, sulfates, etc.) controlled to ppm or ppb levels.

Boric Acid Used in the Medicine Industry

Boric acid is primarily used in medicine as a mild topical disinfectant and antiseptic, applied for wet compress astringency on the skin, cleansing rinses for the eyes and mucous membranes, and adjunctive antifungal therapy. It is strictly prohibited for oral administration, and both the concentration and the area of application must be carefully controlled.
