In recent years, Latvia has taken an increasingly clear position in China's chemical export map. As an EU member state and a traditional logistics hub in the Baltic region, Latvia hosts the port of Riga, one of the leading container ports on the eastern Baltic coast, where cargo can be distributed to the Baltic states and the Nordic markets. Food and beverage, woodworking, construction materials and transport logistics keep operating steadily, maintaining stable demand for basic chemicals, while local chemical production cannot cover every category, making imports a regular practice. China serves as a key link in this supply chain. Nevertheless, only scattered impressions are available in public discussions regarding the actual volume and categories of Chinese chemical products exported to Latvia. As a service provider for China-Latvia chemical supply chains, we have carried out research on chemicals under our business scope and sorted out relevant China Customs data from January to September 2026, as shown in the table below.

Notes for table: Export volume is measured in kilograms. Export value refers to the total export amount (in Renminbi Yuan) for each product variety. Unit price is calculated as Export Value ÷ Export Volume. Products are sorted in descending order of export volume.

Data Interpretation

1. Looking across the report at the 17 chemical products, China's total export volume to Latvia reached 2,273,269 kg, with a total export value of 11,799,723 RMB. Among these, 9 products exceeded 10 tons, 5 exceeded 50 tons, 5 exceeded 100 tons and 1 exceeded 500 tons, while 1 exceeded 1,000 tons.

The fact that 9 products exceeded 10 tons indicates that procurement for these chemicals relies heavily on the Chinese market. It shows that procurement costs in China are relatively low, and Chinese pricing advantages are highly evident. These products include Calcium chloride, Citric acid, Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), Propylene glycol, Methyl methacrylate, Ethyl acetate, Acetone, Formic acid and Polyacrylamide.

In Latvia, the applications for these products are mainly concentrated in the following sectors:

  • Water Treatment and Road Maintenance: Calcium chloride, the largest variety in this report by export volume, is widely used for road de-icing, dust suppression, water treatment and as a desiccant, matching Latvia's winter road maintenance and municipal management needs.
  • Food and Beverage Processing: Citric acid, maltodextrin and glycerine are used in food processing applications such as beverages, confectionery and dairy products.
  • Plastics and Construction Materials: Polypropylene serves plastics and packaging production, polyacrylamide is used in water treatment and ore dressing, and methyl methacrylate goes into acrylic sheets and building coatings.
  • Coatings and Industrial Cleaning: Propylene glycol, ethyl acetate, acetone, formic acid and caustic soda are used in coatings, resins, metal surface treatment and cleaning formulations.

2. In terms of the overall report, China's total export volume to Latvia is 2,273,269 kg, compared to a total global export volume of 8,176,278,996 kg. Latvia's share accounts for only 0.028% of China's global exports. This demonstrates that China has ample production capacity and can sustainably supply the Latvian market.

FAQ

Q: How to find reliable manufacturers in the Chinese market?

A: You can absolutely find reliable manufacturers through us. We are Shanghai Dingwujin Chemical Co., Ltd., a China-Latvia chemical trade service provider located in Shanghai, China. We possess a much deeper understanding of the pricing and quality within the Chinese chemical market than general buyers. We can provide direct procurement from source factories, chemical bidding, OEM, quality control, as well as COA and SDS services to guarantee long-term stable supply and quality.

Q: Should I choose sea freight or land transport from China to Latvia?

A: Latvia has the port of Riga on the Baltic coast, reachable by sea freight in about 35-45 days, with some services transshipped via Hamburg or Rotterdam. By land, the China-Europe freight train runs directly to Riga, taking about 18-25 days in total. Booking, customs clearance and door-to-door delivery are all arranged by us in one package.

Q: Are there suppliers available who provide REACH/OR registration?

A: We have independently registered a company in Poland and provide REACH/OR registration services for trade from China to Latvia. By empowering factories with REACH capability, we help Chinese factories that meet the tonnage threshold become compliant REACH/OR suppliers.
