In recent years, Serbia has taken an increasingly clear position in China's chemical export map. As an EU candidate country and a transport hub in the Western Balkans, Serbia is landlocked yet well connected: cargo can be discharged at the Greek port of Thessaloniki or the Montenegrin port of Bar and moved inland, the China-Europe freight train runs directly to Belgrade, and river ports along the Danube handle sea-river services. Food processing, automotive and machinery manufacturing, construction materials, plastics and packaging keep operating, maintaining steady demand for basic and fine chemicals, while local chemical production cannot cover every category, making imports a regular practice. China serves as a key link in this supply chain. Nevertheless, only scattered impressions are available in public discussions regarding the actual volume and categories of Chinese chemical products exported to Serbia. As a service provider for China-Serbia chemical supply chains, we have carried out research on chemicals under our business scope and sorted out relevant China Customs data from January to September 2026, as shown in the table below.

Notes for table: Export volume is measured in kilograms. Export value refers to the total export amount (in Renminbi Yuan) for each product variety. Unit price is calculated as Export Value ÷ Export Volume. Products are sorted in descending order of export volume.

Data Interpretation

1. Looking across the report at the 14 chemical products, China's total export volume to Serbia reached 3,619,208 kg, with a total export value of 20,351,749 RMB. Among these, 10 products exceeded 10 tons, 5 exceeded 50 tons, 4 exceeded 100 tons, while 1 exceeded 500 tons and 1 exceeded 1,000 tons.

The products above 10 tons are Citric acid, Methyl methacrylate, Sodium carbonate, Bentonite, Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), Glycerine, Melamine, Propene, White oil, Dimethyl carbonate, which indicates that procurement for these chemicals relies heavily on the Chinese market. It shows that procurement costs in China are relatively low, and Chinese pricing advantages are highly evident.

In Serbia, the applications for these products are mainly concentrated in the following sectors:

  • Food and Beverage Processing: Citric acid, lactic acid and glycerine are used in beverages, confectionery, bakery and dairy processing, serving Serbia's food industry and agricultural processing chain.
  • Panels, Plastics and Coatings: Methyl methacrylate serves acrylic sheets, emulsions and architectural coatings, melamine is the key raw material for melamine-faced panels and laminate resins, dimethyl carbonate works as a low-toxicity solvent in coating and resin systems, and Hexylene Glycol is used in resin and coating formulations.
  • Glass, Detergents and Construction Materials: Sodium carbonate and caustic soda are basic inputs for glass, detergents and building materials, bentonite serves foundry sand bonding, drilling mud and absorbents, and zinc oxide is used in ceramics, rubber and coating additives.
  • Petrochemical Feedstock and Industrial Auxiliaries: Propene is a basic petrochemical feedstock feeding polypropylene, acrylonitrile and propylene oxide, while white oil serves plastics, textiles and personal care formulations.

2. In terms of the overall report, China's total export volume to Serbia is 3,619,208 kg, compared to a total global export volume of 5,902,344,421 kg. Serbia's share accounts for only 0.061% of China's global exports. This demonstrates that China has ample production capacity and can sustainably supply the Serbian market.

FAQ

Q: How to find reliable manufacturers in the Chinese market?

A: You can absolutely find reliable manufacturers through us. We are Shanghai Dingwujin Chemical Co., Ltd., a China-Serbia chemical trade service provider located in Shanghai, China. We possess a much deeper understanding of the pricing and quality within the Chinese chemical market than general buyers. We can provide direct procurement from source factories, chemical bidding, OEM, quality control, as well as COA and SDS services to guarantee long-term stable supply and quality.

Q: Should I choose sea freight or land transport from China to Serbia?

A: Serbia is a landlocked country. By sea, cargo can be discharged at the Greek port of Thessaloniki or the Montenegrin port of Bar and then moved inland by truck or rail, taking about 30-45 days in total; a sea-river service along the Danube to Zemun port in Belgrade is also available. By land, the China-Europe freight train runs directly from Xi'an, Chengdu and Chongqing to Belgrade, taking about 14-22 days station to station and 18-25 days door to door. Booking, customs clearance and door-to-door delivery are all arranged by us in one package.

Q: Do chemicals need to be registered before entering the Serbian market?

A: Serbia regulates chemicals under its own Law on Chemicals, and EU REACH does not apply directly. Chemicals produced or imported into the Serbian market in quantities of 100 kg or more per year must be entered in the Register of Chemicals, with applications filed between 1 January and 31 March for the previous year. Safety data sheets and labels must be issued in Serbian and follow GHS, suppliers of hazardous chemicals must appoint a chemical adviser, and a foreign manufacturer must designate a representative or importer in Serbia. We can help prepare the registration application together with Serbian SDS and labels, and coordinate the local representative and chemical adviser, so that Chinese factories within the registration scope can enter the Serbian market smoothly.
